Reef funding welcomed

The Great Barrier Reef Foundation welcomes the Australian Government’s announcement of a $1 billion investment in the protection of our irreplaceable Great Barrier Reef.

This is the critical decade to act if we are to secure the future of coral reefs.

The facts are clear – we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions, whilst also building the resilience of our Reef and helping it adapt to the changes already caused by climate change.

Great Barrier Reef Foundation Managing Director Anna Marsden says the Reef Trust Partnership with the Australian Government has shown what a strategic uplift in funding can do to accelerate action to protect the Reef through collaboration and innovation.

"We welcome this further investment in Reef protection, restoration and adaptation and are looking forward to seeing how this work will complement and build on what we have already been able to achieve with our partners through the Reef Trust Partnership."
