Building on a 15-year partnership with the Foundation, earlier this year Qantas announced a new investment that will help accelerate the restoration of the Great Barrier Reef, including investment in Coral IVF programs, thermally tolerant corals and world-first portable coral nurseries.

Qantas are investing $10 million over 10 years in the Reef Restoration Fund to support scientists, Traditional Owners and local tourism operators restoring corals across the Great Barrier Reef and other iconic Australian coral reefs.

The significant expansion of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation partnership is part of a broader Qantas Group strategy to contribute to a nature-positive future as outlined in its Nature Action Plan.

In the first two years, the projects that will be funded include:

Boats4Corals

This program trains local tourism operators, Traditional Owners and researchers in the novel coral restoration technique known as Coral IVF and launch it in new reef locations.

Coral Nurture Program

The Fund will enhance partnerships in Cairns between tourism, Traditional Owners, and researchers to restore key reef sites and research corals with robust traits such as increased heat-tolerant corals for greater reef resilience.

Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program

The Fund will support the technology transformation stream of RRAP to accelerate the development and delivery of thermally tolerant corals.

Reef Seed

AIMS is developing world-first portable coral nurseries in shipping containers that can grow and plant 100,000 corals each year. Through the Fund, the first Reef Seed will be deployed.

#Green Tier
